Call STARFLEET for Electric Strike Service
A strike is the metal plate on the door frame that accepts the lock bolt or latch to lock the door. An Electric Strike will allow user entry by a card or code number or permit someone to push a button at a desk or counter to unlock a door some distance away. Commonly referred to as a ‘door buzzer’, the electric strike offers convenience.
The energy to power the electric strike comes from a small transformer. Wall current is reduced from 115vac to 12 or 24 volts ac or dc. A fixed hard-wired transformer is hooked up directly to the building wiring, while a plug-in transformer inserts into any wall outlet.
The electric strike is installed in the door frame and the lock latch fits into it. Some strikes ‘buzz’ when they are activated, others remain silent. When the switch is pushed, the strike releases the keeper, allowing the door to be pushed or pulled open. The door automatically re-locks as the door closes when the latch is re-engaged in the strike. Electric strikes come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes to allow controlled access of almost any type of lock.

The power supply unlocks the strike when a switch is pushed to complete the wiring circuit. The switch can be a simple push button, a keypad, a card reader, a key switch, a motion detector or any other switch that completes a circuit activating the unlock sequence.
